Today marks my 40th guitar playing anniversary (March 3rd, 1980) – whoa! What a great journey it has been. I’d like to note the occasion with this little instructional video. Here’s to 40 more!
Some deliberate and slow playing – another exercise. I try to give each note or short cluster some musical “weight” by giving it a different treatment, whether tone, vibrato, duration or something else.
“Stream of consciousness” playing here – an exercise I use often to expand my musical vocabulary. The goal is to rely as little as possible on stuff that is worked out ahead of time, and just play – connecting the musical dots as it makes sense in the moment. 👍🎸
A minute and a half of varied playing here. Dropped in some subdued 👼 chordal stuff with a Big-Muff 👌 tone in places.
Here’s a short piece that starts with a kind of fiery 🧨Em thing, and ends with a pretty 🎶 Gmaj thing.
Here’s a 2-plus minute outdoor 🦅 inspired session from my most recent recording. A mix of different techniques in this one.
Out of the studio and into nature 🌲 for this short piece!
Some simple patterns here, spiced up with acceleration and deceleration. 🎸😎
Here’s a little section that includes a cool little chromatic ascending 🧗🏻♂️ run from a recent recording.
A minute-plus of playing from my most recent recording. I’m trying to mix it up here; using the whole fretboard, arpeggios, octaves, reverse bends, chromatic phrases, open strings and vocal vibrato. 🎸🎶😎
